It all began with an idea.
The Hoover Meredith Learning Community Foundation was formally incorporated by the Iowa Secretary of State on December 11, 2008; the Foundation received 501c(3) tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service on March 4, 2009, and quickly began a fundraising campaign.
The Foundation awarded its first learning enhancement grant during the Spring of 2010. Between the Spring of 2010 and December 2023, educators and students have been awarded 312 grants totaling $155,652.37.
On August 5, 2021, the Board of Directors unanimously approved a motion to “establish an endowment at the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. This is another opportunity for donors to commit funds to our foundation.
Our latest fall grant cycle (October 2024), supported 35 grants in total awarding over $35,000. This past November, we announced our new name as The Husky Nation Foundation. We look forward to many more years supporting the northwest public schools in Des Moines!
